While listening to the evening news, my heart often cries, How long, O Lord? How long will the rights of children to be protected from evil be trampled underfoot in favor of political correctness? How long will the government founded to provide religious freedom for its citizens ignore the rights of the majority? How long will practicing religious freedom exclude Christians?
When Sunday’s news announced that the State of Massachusetts had passed a law that transgender folks must be allowed to use whatever restroom and locker room facilities they choose, an interview I’d heard two weeks earlier rang in my ears. A lady from Texas swiftly changed her opinion of the politically correct issue for which she’d been a staunch advocate during a trip to the Mall with two little granddaughters.
Their shrieks of terror at finding two grown men inside the restroom sent them running back to Grandma, refusing to use the facilities. Grandma now speaks against the law that offers freedom for a handful of transgender people at the price of freedom and security for everyone else.
Transgender Fraud
Not to worry. The State of Massachusetts has also ordered the police to receive training in detecting those falsely claiming transgender status in order to use it as an opportunity for evil. I wanted to shout Dr. Phil’s famous line, “Do I have stupid stamped on my forehead?” How will that protect our kids?
When I worked with reconstructive surgical teams who actually did gender reassignment surgery, these professionals insisted on a two-year period of time for such assessment. Many patients who declared transgender status didn’t qualify for that narrow category. Now lawmakers want the police to make such a judgment in the heat of disagreement in a public restroom?
The police officers carry an enormous load already. Innocent people have been shot and killed when fear leads law enforcement officers to overreact at simple traffic stops. The direct targeting of police officers protecting the citizenry’s right to protest peacefully left innocent officers dead or wounded in the streets of Dallas.
Is training in transgender detection really a law enforcement issue? Is bathroom patrol an efficient use of the taxpayer-supported police force? How many millions of public bathrooms are there in America, anyway?
Transgender Laws and the Church
Many Christian churches in America provide Day Care services and academic programs for parents seeking an alternative to public education. The lawmakers who proclaim separation of church and State from the rafters are in the process of legislating a dramatic change to the churches bathroom policies.
According to the politically correct authors of the laws, the church must allow transgender individuals to use the restroom of their choice for all nonreligious activities. This includes the Day Care and K-12 academic programs, but also covers all youth group events and sports. It makes no difference that the Christian church’s belief is that such things are an abomination to Almighty God.
That’s Not All
The transgender bathroom issue continues to get front stage because of the public reaction. It’s not the only area where the rights of the Christian to practice their Bible-based religion are being ignored in favor of welcoming the newcomer to America.
Following the developing exclusion of Christian beliefs from America’s religious freedom, several other areas are noted:
- Prayer/Bible Study. The lawmakers present the historical truth that America’s founding fathers bled and died for religious freedom in America when defending the Muslims’ right to demand a special prayer room on campus for their kids but fail to defend the Christian’s rights to hold a Bible Study on school property.
- Workplace. Religious sensitivities allowed The Muslim flight attendant to refuse to serve a passenger alcohol but jailed a county clerk for exercising her personal religious belief against same-sex marriage.
- Business Owners. The Muslim immigrants are allowed to order the local, long-time serving butcher to remove all pork from his shop because it offends their religious beliefs, but the Christian business owners who suggested the same-sex couple select another bakery for their wedding cake lost their business.
- Sharia/Secular Law. The Muslim father who admits he killed his daughter for talking to a Christian boy at the Mall endured no police investigation or prosecution, but Christian parents are warned not to spank their kids at the risk of losing them.
Conclusion
How long will practicing religious freedom exclude Christians? As long as those in the majority submit to the bullying, vocal minority who insist we tolerate all other religions to the exclusion of Bible-based Christianity.
Are our pastors and fellow-Christians willing to lay down their lives to keep the religious freedom our founding fathers bled and died to establish for us?
Don’t give up, Christians! Stand up and be counted among those following the commands of the Almighty, Holy God. Don’t ignore the piece-by-piece subtle loss of your religious freedom, favoring tolerance to the exclusion of your own beliefs.
If we stand for God’s Word and statutes, God will fight for us. If we don’t, we’ll be on the losing side.
